Singam movie review

Today was in the mood for watching a movie at a theater and so set out to watch Singam just for Surya and from that point of view the movie was good, just for Surya and Prakash Raj. Surya is probably one of the most improved actors in Kollywood, his body language and screen presence is what takes you thorugh this movie. As for choosing a movie, Surya probably needs some help, this is the 2nd dumb movie is a row after Adhavan and if you watch his earlier movie with Hari (Vel) you just get the feeling he is not a good judge of movies!

Direction and story, thats the big minus for the movie, too much of action, not that it was unexpected, but the direction had this irritating image of a lion attacking its opponents whenever Surya hits. The lion prances around and attacks so much that after a time you actually pray for the lion to take a chill pill and relax in its den. Prakash Raj once again does a good job for a role he has already done to death, but still his and Surya's performance takes you through the movie

Vivek's comedy does produce some laughs (Surprisingly), but the template is from Vadivelu's and thankfully you are saved some advices on how to live your life from the very intelligent vivek and he sticks to doing just comedy!(Savior clap clap)

So end result, crappy story, been there done that, just watch for Surya and Prakash Raj

Just based on today's news!

BP is finally on the verge of blocking out the oil spill, after 30 days. And going by the videos that have been circulating around, this is a disaster beyond what anybody comprehended. In the aftermath of this spill BP has conjured up so many jargons, will just take a couple of them

Top Hat: This is a dome like structure which is placed on top of the broken pipe and oil is sucked out through to a ship on top

Top Kill: This is a smaller dome which is placed on top of the broken oil pipe and construction mud is first dropped in to slow down the flow of oil and gas and once the pressure is sufficiently down, then the whole pipe is blocked with cement

Just different jargons that were just floating around. The FEDS have been blamed for not taking control of this oil spill. But if you watch the live video on CNN you would understand why the FED cannot take control. The whole operation is happening at a depth of 1 mile below the surface of the ocean and everything is controlled through robots which they name as underwater submarines, and its all hi-tech stuff. The FEDS if they need to take control, they again need to take the help of BP or other oil companies to use a similar technology. You might as well step on BP's throat and get them to do it. BP like every other company has been lying through its nose to cut down the impact on its brand name, we gotto see how that goes

Meanwhile for the folks who havent had a chance to look at the underwater videos and the impact on the marshes, I have placed a few links below so that you can take a look courtesy CNN, its a serious serious disaster

Hot Yoga

Recently I rejoined Bikram Yoga. There have been quite a few controversies with Bikram yoga in India regarding his patent on Yoga. This yoga is very interesting, in that it is a really taxing workout. The temperature of the room is supposed to be maintained at 105F and the humidity is maintained at a 40%. This is to ensure that your muscles get warmed-up quickly and you can go deeper into the poses than you normally would. Because of this the yoga is pretty expensive too(To setup the heat, have a humidifier etc.,), for a 6-month class I pay close to 110$/month. The Yoga as such has 26 poses, there are 2 breathing exercises that are part of these 26 poses, one at the beginning and one at the end and in between you have a lot of standing followed by postures for strengthening the back. Each of the poses are done twice, first for 1 minute and then again for 30 secs, the idea is that the second time you go deeper into the poses. The yoga as such is pretty tiring because of the temperature and humidity, but surprisingly by the end of it when its done you feel refreshed, I am still wondering how that is possible :)

Lots of precautions you need to take though, you need to stay well hydrated to ensure you dont pass out, I had been to hot yoga for 3 months in Aug 2009 timeframe, I liked it but dropped out because it was very expensive, when I joined now, i thought I would be used to it. boy was I wrong, after the first 2-3 poses i almost passed out, I felt dizzy, so took a break, lied down for some time, drank water and then was good to go.

Anyway the proponents claim a lot of benefit, I did lose some pounds when I was there, so I will update you if I feel some additional benefits apart from weight loss
